New Health Center Program GeoCare Navigator

The Health Center Program GeoCare Navigator is now available!

This mapping tool is tailored to Health Center Program needs. You can use it to generate service area maps for applications or for change in scope requests. You can use it to evaluate geographic reach, penetration, and growth of the Health Center Program and its relationship to other federally linked health resources.

Health Center Program GeoCare Navigator

An introductory video and user guide (PDF) and other helpful links are available under the “Resources” dropdown within the tool. We will release more training and documentation in the coming months.

As we announced last fall, the Uniform Data System (UDS) Mapper will sunset next month. The UDS Mapper and related technical assistance (TA) resources (on the UDS Mapper Tutorials and Resources webpage) will continue to be available through March.

Submit questions about the GeoCare Navigator via the BPHC Contact Form (Health Center Data and Research > Health Center Program GeoCare Navigator).

Missed Opportunities for Preventing Congenital Syphilis

In response to the surging number of syphilis and congenital syphilis cases nationwide, HHS is taking action to slow the spread with a focus on those most significantly impacted. Read the press release.

Health centers are an important part of this effort.

That’s why we’re collaborating with CDC and the National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention on a webinar for clinicians and other health care providers. Congenital syphilis occurs when pregnant people with syphilis pass the infection to their babies. Early screening, diagnosis, and treatment can prevent potential lifelong consequences. Speakers will explore missed opportunities for prevention.

Native Hawaiian Health Care

HRSA Announces the Availability of Nearly $25 Million for Native Hawaiian Health Care

Last week, HRSA released the fiscal year (FY) 2024 Native Hawaiian Health Care Improvement Act Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO, HRSA-24-030). Nearly $25 million will be available to support comprehensive disease prevention, health promotion, and primary health care services for Native Hawaiians.

Native Hawaiian Island communities experience geographic isolation and other barriers to accessing health care services. When compared to other population groups, Native Hawaiians have significantly higher rates of diabetes, heart disease, obesity, stroke, asthma, hypertension, dental caries, and cancer.

This opportunity is a limited competition. To learn more about eligibility, visit the FY 2024 NHHCIA webpage and download the NOFO. Applications are due in Grants.gov by May 2.

DUE THURSDAY: Bridge Funding Reporting Requirement – Health Center COVID-19 Survey

Health centers using HRSA COVID-19 Bridge funds are required to complete the monthly Health Center COVID-19 Survey. The February 2 survey is due by 11:59 p.m. your local time on Thursday, February 8. Please ONLY report January data in this survey.

If your health center received a project period extension for using Expanding COVID-19 Vaccination (ECV) funds, you are also expected to continue reporting via the survey until your extension concludes.

Our COVID-19 Data Collection Survey Tool User Guide can help you. If you still have questions, use the  BPHC Contact Form (COVID-19 > COVID-19 Surveys).

CMS launches Value-Based Care Spotlight Website

In value-based care (VBC), doctors and other health care providers work together to manage a person’s overall health, while considering the person’s health goals. The “value” in VBC refers to what an individual values most.

The CMS website provides information for providers and the general public. It illustrates how VBC is a cornerstone of transforming health care. The VBC spotlight features patient and provider voices sharing real-world stories that show the meaningful impact this approach has had.
